Opportune Heirloom

We have always found beauty in the art of story...a poem, a song, a film, a chat with a friend. We are most engaged with conversations about a person's thoughts or feelings, rather than discussing the obvious topics. What are you passionate about today? What did you see in the world today that made you think differently? What stoked your heart? These are our typical evening conversations, too. The questions about our part in this world are what create our story. We are just layers of the days filled with all that we have seen or heard and all the thoughts and feelings that exposure creates.

This concept spills over into the layers of our home. The newest items are the sofa and the TV's. I'm not sure I have another piece of furniture that is 'store bought'. I feel so lucky to have the desk that my great grandmother used and the table my husband remembers sitting at as a child. That is not a fact for a lot of folks, and I try not to take it for granted anymore. A friend pointed out that she did not have heirlooms but thought it important that she start that tradition. I love that concept. I love that our furnishings and art are steeped in story and can create that  opportunity for others.

My favorite homes are where nothing is simply an object but it has a deeper conversation behind it. Storied home interiors add a unique and meaningful dimension to our living spaces. That is part of the excitement of creating these items. The bulk of the material we use holds a connection to the past, and while we cannot hear the story...we can feel, see and try to tell that story. We want the objects we create to give a sense of warmth and comfort, fostering a deeper emotional bond with your environment. Ultimately, a home filled with stories becomes a place of inspiration and authenticity, reminding us of who we are and the moments we have allowed to shape our lives.
